This is how you design the tray with matching candles:
Using the découpage technique, you can combine any straw tissue paper and apply it to different materials. You can either tear the desired patterns or cut them out with tweezers.
Use Candle Potch to stick your designs onto the candles with a brush and leave them to dry. Candle Potch is a lacquer and glue in one and dries to a silky matt and transparent finish.
To design the tray, we have chosen the "Roseland Corners" motif straw silk in our example and cut it into strips. Glue the strips to the outside of the tray using napkin varnish. This works best if you apply the glue to the areas that you want to cover. Then place your motif on top and coat it again with the varnish. As the VBS napkin varnish is an adhesive and a coating varnish in one, you can also coat the rest of the tray with it. This protects the wood and you can wipe it clean with a damp cloth.
Place the candles on the tray with the glass coasters. Arrange the roses and Iceland moss.
